“Excuse me? That’s all I’ve been doing for the past year is living with it! God
knows I can’t forget it! They won’t let me!”
“Who?”
“The ladies at the beauty shop… the people at the church…that’s all they ever
talk about… I swear, I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have Eve and her
sister Eddie Mae to talk to. They’re the only friends that I have.”
"What are you talking about? I'm your friend. I'm your best friend."
You used to be, she thought, as she felt her eyes welling up with tears.
"I can't do this with you right now. I have to go start on the tub."
“No! You need to stay here… you need to talk to me… we need to work this out… we
can’t live like this… our kids deserve better.”
She swung her full figured body around and aimed her pointer finger at him.
“Don’t talk to me about the kids. You weren’t thinking about them when you were
messing around.”
"I know. I’m sorry.” He said, feeling his life slipping away.
